Have Your Class A CDL? Find The Perfect Position That Is Just Right For You

by Jared Butler

Did you just get your Class A CDL? Now that you have this license, you can legally drive several types of vehicles, including tractor-trailers and flatbed trucks. Because you have likely gained the necessary experience with operating these larger vehicles by passing the exam and receiving your license, you may be fully prepared to start working in the industry, gaining even more experience, and getting paid for all the work you do. You can look online to find CDL truck driver positions that are available and then compare those positions before picking the right ones to apply to.

Consider These Things When Looking For a Truck Driving Position

As you start the search for your new job, you will need to find job openings with companies that are looking for trained individuals that have already obtained their Class A CDL. In addition to finding companies that are looking for someone like yourself, you should consider what you want to do for a living. Although you know you want to drive a truck, you may have a bit of preference over what you will do each day. These are some of the important things you should find out about open positions before you fill out an application:

  • What are the hours like?
  • Will I spend days or weeks away from home while on the road?
  • Does the position pay by the hour or is a salary offered?
  • What will I be transporting from one location to the next?
  • What types of benefits can I receive and when will those benefits kick in?
  • Am I expected to work nights, weekends, or even holidays?

You should find out the answers to these questions to help you decide on a position that is worth trying to get. For example, you might not want to spend too much time away from your family, especially if you have young children. If so, you likely want to find a position where you can clock in at some point in the morning and clock out to go home by the end of the night.

Land a Great Job Doing What You Enjoy Most

Different truck driving positions are available for those with their Class A CDL. In fact, the demand for drivers is currently on the rise. There is always a need for people like you who have been properly trained to drive larger vehicles that take up more space and are often loaded with heavy cargo. Because there is such a demand for drivers, you should not have a difficult time finding a good job that pays well and allows you to work the hours you personally prefer.
