Your Website: Making It Effective

by Jared Butler

When starting any business, you probably realize the importance of having a website clients or customers can use. However, with so many options for creating a site, it's easy to forget what the focus of the site should be. How can you make your website effective?

Have Goals

Goals are important when creating your website. Do you want the site to prompt users to contact your office by phone? Do want to build an e-commerce site where customers can buy products immediately? The company goals you have will determine what kind of website you create. Without clear goals, you could build a sprawling site that doesn't accomplish much. Therefore, have multiple goals in mind so that you can plan the site better.

Remember White Space

All websites have text. However, some site owners don't realize that reading web text is not quite the same as reading a book. Online, the eye is drawn to shorter sentences. It's drawn to white space; long blocks of text can be off-putting. Therefore, ensure that you create multiple short paragraphs to cut up text and make your site pages more readable.

Take Care with Color

It's natural that your site will contain colors, but you must be mindful of the colors you choose. Avoid black backgrounds, for instance, as those make text harder to read. Think about the feel and attitude each color can lend to your site. For instance, using blues on your site can have a peaceful and calming effect while red can encourage a feeling of excitement or, in certain cases, alarm. Avoid using too many colors as once as that can be distracting for the eyes.

Try the Site on Different Devices

Your site might look great on your computer, but when you pick up your phone, the margins might be off or pages don't load. Therefore, before inviting people to your company's site, ensure that the pages are visible on a variety of devices.

Update Frequently

If you want repeat visitors, you need to make a plan to update your site frequently. Whether you post blogs regularly or always have discounts available, give customers and clients a reason to keep returning to the website. With the right coding and setup, you can schedule future posts or coupons.

Your site is important to your business. Consult a web development company that can listen to your needs and deliver a site that works for your customers or clients.
