Boost Productivity With an Organized Work Space

Home office storage furniture does more than house and protect your equipment and supplies. The right furniture will ensure that everything is easily accessible. This may increase your productivity and make your workload lighter. Here are seven good choices for home office storage:

1. Shelving Units

Most home offices are limited in terms of space. To maximize your work space, keep your supplies within reach, while freeing up your workstation and floor. Storage shelving units may be constructed of wood, wood and glass, or metal.

If you choose shelving units to store supplies, consider those with adequate compartments or interior space for hiding cables. This is convenient for placement of charging cradles and docks. Many styles include doors. Some shelving units can be stacked.

2. Sideboards and Freestanding Wood Cabinets

A sideboard looks much like a buffet table for your living room, except it is typically not as high and includes shorter legs. These may be available in various finishes to complement your decor. Most will feature glass doors for your storage needs, as well as shelves of various widths. You can place a sideboard against the wall, or if space is tight, choose a corner sideboard that will take minimum office space.

A cabinet with shelves and drawers may have an upright vertical design or a flat, horizontal design. Look for adjustable shelves to suit your office needs. Adjustable feet will provide stability on concrete, vinyl and hardwood floors.

3. File Cabinets and Carousels

Most home office file cabinets will be constructed of metal. If you prefer, you may choose wooden or wicker. A rolling cabinet with casters will offer portability, as they are easily moved.

If your needs are minimal and you have limited space, consider purchasing a storage filing cart. Some carts feature a two-tiered design. A storage cart is more compact than a traditional cabinet, although it is limited in storage capacity.

How about a filing binder storage carousel? This type of spinner storage solution will sit nicely on a desktop. It may rotating storage binders on rotating shelves. You may also store books and office media.

4. LAN Stations

If your home office includes a computer, monitor, printer and fax machine, you probably need more storage space. A LAN station, otherwise known as a Local Network System station, offers durable construction that can support a good deal of weight. Some are mobile with wheeled casters. These are available in various sizes, for holding one or several networking systems.

5. Bookcases

For a traditional look and feel, choose bookcases to store your office binders, books and reading materials. Vertical bookcases are available in a wide array of styles and designs. Many feature adjustable shelves.

6. Literature Organizers

If you store literature in your home office, keep everything neatly organized with one of these. Your options include letter-size organizers with several slots, as well as organizers with adjustable compartments. Mail room cabinets are another idea. These are multi-functional and include various sized "pockets" for mail and literature.

7. Magazine Racks

If you store magazines in your home office, a magazine rack can keep them organized. Choose a vertical rack with 10-20 "pockets", or a mobile magazine shelf rack on wheels. Some magazine racks feature an underneath compartment for storage. Alternatively, you may prefer a wall magazine rack with included hardware.

Remember, before you purchase your home office equipment, take measurements of your allotted space. Also, keep in mind that some units are pre-assembled, although most office furniture may require some assembly.
